So I'm reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. They aren't great literature by any stretch of the imagination, but they're interesting if you like vampire fiction. I'm on book four, and this one I found just a bit annoying. Since I'm going to talk about spoilers I'll cut this.
It really bugs me that she went to great lengths in previous books to say that humans can NOT be turned into vampires. They are a separate species and it's just impossible to turn one species into another. That's cool, and I kind of like this as a twist on the vampire mythos. But in this books she lets the human, Butch, be turned into a vampire. I'm sorry J.R. Ward, but you can't set it up one way then turn around and violate the rules you made for your world. It really really bugged me!
Also, if you're going to describe sex acts, you need to know what they are. In one scene, Butch is talking to his girlfriend about how he wants to have sex with her. He says he wants to have penis in vagina sex with her, WHILE she is fisting him. I'm sorry, I just don't believe that J.R. Ward knows what fisting is. Unless she has gorilla/elastic man arms, I just can't see how this would work. He's definitely talking about missionary position, but even in reverse cowgirl, I don't think it would be very likely.
And J.R. Ward, the hymen in not inside the vagina, ok? If he's got it half way in, he's already gone past it.
Overall though I like it for what it is. It's a cheesy cheesy supernatural romance and sometimes that's all I want out of a book.
