R.I.P. Gabriel

My little buddy Gabe died. I just found him. I know he was very old for a Betta, and I have really been expecting this any day, but it's still so awful to find him like that. He was so smart for a fish. I'm really going to miss him. I guess you guys think it's silly to get so upset over a fish, but he was such a good buddy to me for well over 2 years now. He was really smart for a fish. I can't believe he's really gone.

I'm so sorry. *hugs* No matter how small or how little time you have with them, when a life is precious to you it hurts like hell to lose them.

It really does. I never thought I'd get so attached to a fish. Most of them that you see are rather aloof. But Gabe (and bettas in general, I'm sure) really took note of his surroundings. He was always excited to see me come over to the tank and would wag his tail excitedly. I'm not kidding either, he really did it.

You took good care of him. I'm sure he loved you as much as a fish can love a person. He lived a long and happy life, and now swims free in that great rice paddy in the sky.

It was so horrible this morning when I went to turn on the tank light. I'd sort of blocked it out and having just gotten up and not thinking about it, I turned on the light and then it hit me again.

He was really old for a betta though. I guess it was just his time. I'll miss his merry wagging though.
