I finally seem to have come off that plateau. After three weeks of no loss, I finally lost a pound. I'm so close to my goal that this plateau was very frustrating.

I'm so sick of the hot weather. It's going to be at least 80 degrees again today. It's late October, it's supposed to be cooling off now! ARG!

Dang I had a million things I wanted to talk about today, and now that I'm sitting down at my PC I can't think of a one of them. Oh well. Isn't that always the way?

More rain today from what's left of Isaac. It's off and on because we're not under the main part of it, just some of the outer bands. We really need the water though, so the only complaint I have is that it's not raining enough.

Looks like Isaac is going to all but miss us here. We'll get some rain from it, but not as much as they'd thought. I'm a bit bummed because we desperately need the rain! But at least we'll get some rain, and that's better than nothing.

We're far enough from the coast that hurricanes are almost always downgraded to tropical storms (or lower) before they get up this far. Sometimes they can really slam us though. Ivan caused serious flooding here a few years ago. I think that was 2004. They had to send scuba divers into some apartments to rescue people.

Perfection

Today is a perfect day, especially after the freakish heatwave we've had since March. I've had to run the air conditioner since then! But today it is only going to be in the upper 60s and tonight it's going down into the mid-30s. Ahhhh! I wish it were like this all year long. I wonder if there is such a place?

The good: I've lost 2 pounds this past week so my low-carbing is working. YEA! I like the low-carb diet (I'm doing Atkins, specifically) because I'm not hungry all the time.

I finished The Hunger Games and have started the second one. Catching Fire I think is the title. I did enjoy it, more than I thought I would. The second one is starting out very tensely!

The bad: My daughter's husband's deployment has been extended indefinitely. He was supposed to come home this weekend.

The ugly: Pollen. Pollen counts are at record highs and my sinuses are pretty upset about it. As are my eyes. Even my Claritin is barely keeping the symptoms at bay. I wonder if I should switch to Allegra?

Since my new laptop (which I have affectionatly named "The Beast") is so much bigger than my old laptop, it doesn't fit into my bag, so I've been perusing Amazon to find a new one. You can't find anything but boring black around here, which...blah. I'm a fuchsia girl! Anyway, what do y'all think about this one?

 Pretty fuchsia backpack

HOT!

Jan. 23rd, 2012 11:00 am
mirhanda: (Default)
It is FREAKISHLY hot here and has been for the last week. I'm sitting here on a January morning and sweating! Can you believe that? SWEATING!!! It's ridiculous!

There were bad storms all night last night. We have one of those weather radios that makes an alarm sound if a weather warning is issued in your area and it kept waking me up last night. Luckily most of it was west of here. The system has moved south of us now, but at least 2 people were killed in my county by a tornado. So scary!

This is like springtime weather, not the middle of winter. This is usually the coldest time of the year for us and here it is with an expected high of almost 70 degrees!

Snow

They predicted snow for last night and this morning. I got up very early and looked out and there wasn't any. I wasn't surprised because it never snows in November here. I read that it had only snowed in November here four times since they started keeping records in 1885! The last November snow was way back in 1950 before I was born. My mom was a Freshman in high school! So I really would have been flabbergasted if it had actually snowed. There was snow a little north of here and even that is bizarre! It just doesn't snow this early in the winter this far south! It's very cold for this time of year too. I don't mind that as much because I can put my thick comforter on the bed and stay toasty warm.

Ugh, we're having a thunderstorm and my husband has to fly tonight. I hate it when there's bad weather on a travel night. Maybe it's not bad where he is.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm back at last!

TS Lee took out our cable Monday afternoon and it's only been fixed today. The cable people were saying that it was out because there was no power at a substation. There was (and I guess still is) a lot of power outages in our area. I suppose we're lucky it was only cable for us, I'd hate to think of how it would have been without power all this time. Anyway, we finally got cable back so we can watch tv and have internet!

Rain

We're getting a lot of rain from that tropical storm that came ashore yesterday. It's supposed to rain off and on all day today and tomorrow. Maybe some flooding, although not at my house because if it floods here somebody better build an ark! Haha. I live halfway up a mountain.

I'm roasting a chicken today. I had wanted to get a turkey but the grocery store only had turkey breasts. I thought that was weird, I know I've bought turkeys before in the summer. Anyway, I got a baking hen instead. It's making the house smell soooo good!

Ugh, a storm is going through and I'm home alone. The power went out for a few minutes. Ugh ugh ugh! Glad it's back, and I hope it doesn't do that again!
mirhanda: (Default)
Last night there was a storm about 25-30 miles away from us, so of course our power went out. Ugh. We decided to just go somewhere, so we went to Petsmart and looked at fish. That was entertaining for a while and at least we weren't just sitting in the dark. When we were almost home, the traffic light was still not working so we realized it was still out, so we kept on going and went to Wal-Mart and picked up some bread and milk and things that we were low on. Got to the traffic light and it's still out.

At that point we just came on home and sat in the dark playing scrabble with each other. At least it was during the day so that we had some light coming in through the window! We played two games without scoring* and then it came back. We did wind up having fun playing though.

*I recommend playing without scoring! We wound up really enjoying that and there was no tension between us. We decided not to score because it would have been too hard to see the in the semi-darkness of our room.

Ghouls

After so much devastation, of course Jim Cantore of the weather channel has to bring his ghoulish self over here to gloat over all the damage.  I hate him so much.  I hate the glee with which he greets the destruction of people's homes and lives.  Ugh.  What an asshole!  I wish the Weather Channel would get rid of that jerk!

Some of my husband's coworkers lost their houses in the tornado last night.  It's so horrible!  I'm glad that our house was ok, and my mom and nephew are also ok and had no damage, but I am very sorry for those who weren't so lucky.

I have a rant that seems pretty unimportant after all the tornado damage, but I'm going to do it anyway because even a minor irritation is irritating.  Google has messed up the Google toolbar.  I LOVE my Google toolbar, or at least I used to.  I use a couple of different computers so by using the toolbar, I was able to keep them mostly the same.  But now, despite the fact that I have vast tracts of space on that toolbar, Google decided that they would hide all my buttons.  I can bring them back by clicking the "more" button, but then they disappear again.  It is really super annoying!  GOOGLE! GIVE ME MY BUTTONS BACK!  *SHAKES FIST*

Checking around the internet, it seems like it annoys all the other Google toolbar users as well.  I hope they fix it.  It's not nearly as useful to me with all the clicking I have to do on it now when I used to just have to click my button, now I have to click "more" then the button, then the next thing.  It's ridiculous!
